Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (University Medical Line), Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery, School of Medicine at Stanford University seeks to fill several academic surgeon positions in the Divisions of Abdominal Transplantation and General Surgery. Clinical specialties include abdominal transplant surgery, minimally invasive/bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, complex general surgical oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, and trauma/surgical critical care/emergency general surgery. These faculty positions will be at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level (based on the candidate’s qualifications) in the University Medical Line (UML). The primary location for these positions will be at Stanford Hospital & Clinics, with the potential for a percentage of time dedicated to the VA, Stanford Children’s Hospital, and other satellite locations including South Bay Cancer Center, Valley Care-Pleasanton, and SHC Emeryville. Candidates may also be considered for appointment as Vice Chair of Education for the Department. Candidates for this role will hold or have held a major educational leadership role in surgery such as Clerkship Director, Program Director, Simulation Center Director or VC of Education or equivalent. A strong history of scholarly activity in education research or curriculum design is expected. The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate should have an MD or MD/PhD, and must be board eligible/certified in abdominal surgery or general surgery. It is expected the candidate will have substantial scholarly activity with current funding or a high likelihood of obtaining extramural funding to support their scholarly activity. Candidates will also be expected to build and maintain an active clinical practice in their specialty with a strong commitment to mentorship, research development, and diversity, inclusion, and equity.

The expected base pay range for likely disciplines are listed below. Assistant Professor: $357,000 – $387,000

Associate Professor: $418,000 – $460,000

Professor: $497,000 – $539,000

Transplant Surgery:

Assistant Professor: $420,000 – $450,000

Associate Professor: $495,000 – $549,000

Professor:  $593,000 – $679,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
